New Build Garden

This newly built house was left with a building site for a garden! The heavy clay soil was full of builder's rubble and very compressed so stagnant water lay in pools and did not drain. The clients wanted a low maintenance, labrador-friendly garden that would complement both the new house and its rural setting. We rotavated local topsoil and mulch into the clay for drainage, and made a robust lawn for the dogs to play on. We used Pembrokeshire Blue Pennant stone to make dog-proof raised beds, and used the same stone in flags to make a patio. The centre-piece of the patio was a bubble fountain - one of the few water features that dogs can't jump into! The shade cast by the home office was perfect for a fern garden.
